Words for the season ahead

From the Dirt Rag SS Haiku-off of years past:

Words of praise and love
for two wheels, one gear ratio
This is fantastic!

Titanium rails?
Standing and mashing the way
Saddle is wasted!

No frills under me
Guy riding bling eats my dust
Poser blames his bike!

Rock is menacing;
The line of choice straight ahead
because it is there.

Burning calories,
mashed potatoes can't match the
mashing of one gear.

A walk up the hill
is just an alternate way
for legs to turn wheels.

Genetic defect?
On-one Inbreeding gives me
just a single speed.

Rolling inertia
One speed becomes infectious...
Must tell the whole world!!!

World at peace, until
I hear the slap of a chain -
I am not alone.

May all who pedal
soak these words into their souls
and find peace on wheels.

A goodbye to winter limerick for good measure:

There once was a man named Kris Kringle,
Who got a wee bit careless with his dingle,
his girl got with child,
and to marriage he was exiled,
but vowed, "All of my bikes shall stay single!"

THINK SPRING!

The Single Speed Prophecy

I am not a single speed pontificator.
I do not preach the dogma of single speeding.
It works for me.
It may not be for you.
If you ask me about it, I will try to show you the way to single speed enlightenment.
I believe you should find a ratio that works for you.
I believe you should find a rigid frame and fork made of chrome moly that works for you.
I believe you should just ride, not worrying about what gear to be in or if your shocks are at their right settings for the trail conditions.
As the rigid single speed is always in the right gear, and the suspension is always predictable (sort of). Enabling the single speeder to lose himeself in the trail. With music in their mind (or Phil Ligget) providing fuel as they dance on the pedals (or mash if its a big climb), leading to the next turn in the trail or vista.

Single Speed Alliance

The S.S.A. or ass backwards.

We like to ride our rigid single speed bicycles offroads, in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire.

Which nowadays is strange to some folks.

We do not discriminate, and also ride trails in Maine, Vermont, Massachussets, and Rhode Island.

Or where ever else we travel.
